Empathy and equity are key to creating sustainable harmonious diverse societies. Most people think they understand the meaning of empathy, but this concept is highly culturally specific. The way different cultures frame core beliefs and values like empathy shows why intercultural competence is necessary for everyone today. A holistic data-driven approach is essential in today’s complex world, but data itself is lifeless without compassion and empathy to animate it.

WORKSHOP1: The role of Mutuality in building inclusion, wellbeing and safety in a Digital World
Facilitator: Peter Mousaferiadis, CEO, Cultural Infusion

Workforce mutuality describes the extent to which the diversity of an organisation or a sector’s workforce reflects the diversity of the community. Workforce mutuality is mutually reinforcing for both the community and for health and community organisations. It increases the effectiveness of organisations to support consumers from diverse backgrounds, while improving social wellbeing by creating new employment pathways and greater engagement with community.  This interactive workshop explores the term, its benefits to both the organisation and the community, and incorporates our unique data-driven approach – offering practical tips for measuring mutuality, and incorporating mutuality in the organisation as a whole.mpathy and equity are key to creating sustainable harmonious diverse societies.

Focus: In this presentation the presenter will share a digital literacy project where students ages 10-15 created stories about their lives in order to share these with other students in different countries. The goal was for students to learn about similarities and differences that unite us and to develop empathy and understanding about children their ages across contexts. It is also important that teachers address global citizenship in their classrooms and find ways in their curriculum to teach students about the lives of others in a positive and constructive way.
